This was something that came into my head when I first heard that song (a couple of weeks ago although the song is not new). I wasn't sure if I should send it to the list, because there have been so many of these things. But then I thought, What the Heck… So here it is. It's my version of what could have happened after the screen went black in LK. Just one more scene really… Disclaimers: Nick, Nat and Lacroix don't belong to me but to TPTB and I just borrowed them a bit. The song belongs to Savage Garden. Permission to archive given to Mel's site, FanFic2 and the FTP site You Can Still Be Free (after the song by Savage Garden)by Luc 2003 The lonely figure stood on top of the CN Tower and watched the sky turn from deep black to a steely gray. The cool breeze coming from the lake caught in his coat and made it billow like a pair of giant black wings. *Cool breeze and autumn leaves* *Slow motion daylight* *A lone pair of watchful eyes* *Oversee the living* He contemplated the time he had spent in this city. Six years. What had they brought him? Pain and death. He couldn’t pretend anymore that he protected the people that were living in this city. All he did was bring suffering to the ones he claimed to love. Both his partners had been killed and now she … the only hope he had for a normal life … She was lying dead and cold on the floor of his loft. Because of him. *Feel the presence all around* *A tortured soul* *A wound unhealing* *No regrets or promises* *The past is gone* *But you can still be free* *If time will set you free* He had to go. There was nothing to keep him here. He had begged his master to be released from this eternal hell but he had refused . And he was beginning to think that Lacroix was right. Suicide was too easy. He had to try to regain his mortality. He couldn’t give up. He owed it to her. *Time now to spread your wings* *To take to flight* *The life endeavor* *Aim for the burning sun* *You're trapped inside* *But you can still be free* *If time will set you free* *But it's a long, long way to go* He sighed and turned away from the lightening sky. There was one more thing to do before he would leave with his master. He pushed himself up into the fresh air and headed for his warehouse. Over the city the first rays of the morning sun tinted the sky in deep crimson. There wasn’t much time left. *Keep moving way up high* *You see the light* *It shines forever* *Sail through the crimson skies* *The purest light* *The light that sets you free* *If time will set you free* Yes, He would try it for her. No matter how much more pain it would bring to him – and he knew that it would bring him infinite pain. For you, my Natalie. I will do it for you. *Sail through the wind and rain tonight *You're free to fly tonight *And you can still be free *If time will set you free* *And going higher than mountain tops* *And go high like the wind won't stop* *And go high* *Free to fly tonight* *Free to fly tonight* In front of his loft an impatient Lacroix was waiting for him. He touched down and silently nodded his assent to his master. Lacroix lighted the torch he held and set fire to the wrapped body that lay on the ground. Both vampires watched silently as the flames devoured her. "I will take her ashes with me, Lacroix." The elder squeezed his son's shoulder once in consolation. "A wise decision, my son, a wise decision." Then he disappeared into the shadows. -The End- comments to: cousinlucilla@freenet.de
